River City Construction was founded in October of 1984 by six former employees of V. Jobst & Sons. They are Jim Barr, Wynne Carter, Joe West, Don Brennan, Lu Ori and Jim Wendell. Jim Barr has been President of the company from the beginning until January 2008 when Bernie Koch assumed Barr’s role. Koch first came to River City Construction in 1987 as a Project Manager. One thing he stresses is that everyone at River City has the opportunity to move up in the ranks because they promote from within. Since 1984 they have added offices in Benton, IL and Ashland, MO. They have an administrative staff of 75 employees and depending on current projects they employ from between 300-500 field employees. One thing Koch is very proud of is his Union background. His Father was a Union Carpenter with Local 183 until his retirement.
