Jim Hein, Owner of Hein Construction Company, Inc. says, "We are Union because we want to be! It’s a good way to organize the work place and we get quality people no matter where we work." They normally employ around 75 people during the construction season. They have 2 office locations, one in Peoria and one in Galesburg. Jim Hein started his career as a Union Carpenter in 1971. He is a card holding member of Local #183. After working in the field for a few years he knew his next step was to own and operate his own company. In 1977 he started Hein Construction Company and then in 1979 became incorporated. His brother Russ also joined him in the business. Jim is also involved in the Union as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Central Illinois Carpenters Health and Welfare Trust Fund and also as Secretary of the Annuity Board of Trustees. He would like all the workforce to know that it is possible to achieve success in this business with ambition and hard work. Being a Union Carpenter and a successful business owner has provided him with a good life. Hein Construction specializes in commercial construction and pre-engineered structures. They also are branching out into the equipment moving area of the business as well. They are currently working on the Mid-Central Illinois Regional Council of Carpenters new meeting room addition. You can view pictures of the construction from the very beginning on our web site www.mcircc.com in the photo gallery. Jay Kuzniar, also a member of Local #183 since 2001, is the Superintendent on the job at MCIRCC. Jay’s family has a long history with Hein Construction. Jay’s grandfather, John, also a member of Local #183 worked for Hein Construction for many years until his retirement in 1994. What a great family tradition. Jay runs the crew like it should be. Everyone knows their job and the work is moving along nicely. (Even with all the rain and mud that they have had to deal with) Jim Hein and Jay Kuzniar
